Melissa Clark for City Council--Campaign Video

A part of running for City Council is putting yourself out there to meet people.  Eagle Mountain has 34,000 people and 13,000 of those are registered voters.  It would be impossible to personally meet everyone, but through the miracle of modern technology, I can reach residents with a video.  My neighbor Nicole has a killer camera and we got a little help with editing from another resident of Eagle Mountain that donated his time.  I think it turned out pretty cool.  You can see my video on my facebook page too. In less than 4 days the video has been viewed 2.7k times.  Melissa Clark for City Council

Hannah is quite the Baker

Our oldest daughter Hannah has become quite the baker.  She made some bread to go along with dinner tonight and it turned out gigantic.  Sara called it "Jesus Bread" because "it would feed 5000."

Melissa Clark for City Council--Politics and Pizza

I was invited to participate in a political event with Tom Westmoreland and Donna Burnham on Monday night.  We had the privilege of welcoming Stan Ellsworth.  He was the host of BYUtv's American Ride.  He has a voice like butter, it is a very distinctive storytelling voice.  You can check out my website at www.melissa4EM.com

It was a fun night meeting and talking with residents of our city and other political leaders.   My dear friend Bre came and face painted for us.  She is super talented.

Melissa for City Council--Waving Signs with the Littles

Hannah is our city's new youth Mayor so while she was at her council meeting, we were waving signs.  The girls love getting honks and waves.

Saying Goodbye to Grandma Shirley

Raw moment: just over a week ago we laid my grandma to rest. When we were driving home to UT I remembered something that happened when I was a teenager. When I was a senior in high school I would sit for hours and sing, that came naturally to me, playing piano on the other hand, was hard. I had to practice a ton to be able to play one song. I had a hymn book and made a goal to learn all of the songs in it and worked my way through it. I plucked out every single song over and over. I remember one time my grandma Shirley was visiting and heard me playing one of the hymns. It was a Traditional Swedish melody. I am sure it was sung by her father or in a hymnbook of her youth. She came to me and said "Oh I just love this song. It is my favorite hymn, make sure they sing it at my funeral. " I circled the song in the hymnbook and wrote Grandma by it.
That hymn was "Children of our Heavenly Father". I wish I could have remembered in time to honor that request. Instead you get unrehearsed, no make up, funky hair, and a horrible mp3 as my accompaniment. I can't believe I am posting this because I always cringe when I see posts of people singing, but this is for Grandma.
"Neither life nor death shall ever from the Lord his children sever.
Until them his grace he showeth, and their sorrows all he knoweth."

There were reports of possible weapons at the local high school today. I asked Hannah about it and we discussed a few options including a communication plan if something like this does happen. She is annoyed because she has stuff to do at school, songs to practice, and friends to see. I dropped her off at school and told her I loved her. Then I brought my Littles to their school and decorated Eliza's classroom door. Life goes on, we can't live in fear, but we can be prepared and aware.
